With the support of the EU and thanks to BT the UCL Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science are holding an important consultation on the ways in which small electronic goods could be protected from theft. View Conference programme.
As you may know street crime and other personal offences are again increasing in the UK and across Europe. We know that if goods are designed with crime in mind then they can be much better protected from theft. The EU is funding a consortium of universities across Europe to consider how better to protect goods such as the ipod, mobile phone and similar high tec goods. The project is called MARC.
This important event, which is hosted by Professor Ken Pease on day one and Nick Ross of BBC Crimewatch on day two, provides an opportunity for you to hear how we are approaching this challenge and the chance to comment on the proposals. Ken was closely involved in the DTI Foresight Programme from which this work began, and Nick, as Chair of the UCL Jill Dando Institute Advisory Board, has a long standing interest in the relationship between design and crime.
The event is taking place at the BT Conference Centre, 81 Newgate Street, London EC1A 7AJ on the 19 and 20 April. For further information, the programme of events and details of how to register please see the UCL Jill Dando Institute web site (www.jdi.ucl.ac.uk).
Registration forms should be returned by Wednesday 12 April,12pm. You should note that although the event is free delegates are responsible for finding their own accommodation.
